The department won the Award of Excellence in both the Integrated Marketing/Public Relations Campaign and Direct Marketing Campaign categories. Its win for Integrated Marketing/Public Relations Campaign marked its third consecutive Award of Excellence in that category.

SMG was rewarded for its Integrated Marketing/Public Relations Campaign for Cirque du Soleil’s “Alegria,” performed Dec. 22-26, 2010 at Cox Convention Center. Despite competing for consumer dollars with other holiday-themed shows running in December, “Alegria” achieved a 47 percent increase over the average gross per show of the previous December Cirque du Soleil tour in Oklahoma City and generated $11.01 in gross ticket sales for every marketing dollar spent.

In the Direct Marketing Campaign category, SMG was rewarded for its efforts promoting Dane Cook’s show at Oklahoma City Arena on Nov. 15, 2010. When the show was booked, the marketing department had 49 days to plan and execute its local marketing campaign, including a 39-day window to sell tickets. Through a campaign directed at a college-aged demographic to promote the affordability of the show, the staff helped generate $6.10 in gross ticket sales for every marketing dollar spent.

The American Marketing Association’s Oklahoma City chapter presents its Excellence in Marketing Awards annually each June to honor the best marketing campaigns of the previous year. Prior to 2011, SMG Oklahoma City won the Award of Excellence for its Integrated Marketing/Public Relations campaigns for “Star Wars in Concert” in 2010 and “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” in 2009. The “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” campaign also won AMAOKC’s overall Best of the Best award for that year.
